Gorr (21) fled Russia because he couldn't be himself there as a gay man: "I don't want to go back to living in fear"

Gorr, a 21-year-old Russian refugee, fled to Belgium in 2024 due to persecution as a gay man. He is now studying political science in Brussels and pursuing a music career, hoping to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest. Growing up in Moscow, he faced increasing repression against LGBT+ individuals, especially after the invasion of Ukraine. Despite finding some acceptance in his youth, the tightening of laws and societal attitudes forced him to leave. In Belgium, he feels safe and free, but his Russian nationality complicates his dreams. Gorr expresses a desire for a life without fear and prejudice, aiming to build a future where he can fully embrace his identity.
