Government admits to studying bond after opening circular line
The Portuguese government has decided not to adjust the operation model of the Lisbon Metro circular line before its expected opening in early 2024, as people have been waiting for this expansion for nine years. Secretary of State for Transport, Cristina Pinto Dias, explained that the decision was made upon their arrival in government in 2024. Recent studies suggested combining the circular operation of the green and yellow lines with a loop service to better serve users. However, delays in network expansion due to signaling system adjustments and an additional investment of 18 million euros have led to the abandonment of this scenario for the planned opening. The government plans to complete the circular line and explore the possibility of operating the loop service complementarily, although no timeline for this study has been committed to. The investment of 379 million euros aims to connect the green and yellow lines by constructing a segment between Cais do Sodré and Rato.
