Government admits to strengthening public position in Galp

Manuel Castro Almeida, the Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion, has not ruled out increasing the state's stake in Galp, currently at 8%. In an interview, he emphasized the government's role in ensuring that ownership changes at the Sines refinery do not pose risks to the energy market. He stated that while the decision to end the deal with Moeve was made by the companies, the government felt the need to intervene to protect public interest. Castro Almeida highlighted that the government respects private initiative but must prioritize national interests, ensuring that any owner of the refinery adheres to rules safeguarding these interests. Galp remains interested in finding a partner for the Sines refinery despite the failed deal.
