Government approves new plan to consolidate and expand presence of the Iberian lynx

The Portuguese government has approved a new five-million-euro plan for the conservation of the Iberian lynx, focusing on habitat recovery and population consolidation. The Action Plan for the Conservation of the Iberian Lynx (PACLIP 2026-2030) aims to enhance existing populations and facilitate species expansion across the territory. Key measures include monitoring, reducing mortality factors, and improving ecological connectivity. The plan covers the entire continental territory, particularly areas in Baixo Alentejo and Algarve, and includes financial support for landowners to mitigate conflicts. The initiative is part of a broader effort to reverse biodiversity loss, with the Iberian lynx population currently at 394 individuals.
