Government advances this year with regulation on data centers

The government is set to finalize a law regulating data centers, focusing on energy and water usage. Minister Maria da Graça Carvalho stated that the decree will be ready this year and will differ from Spain's legislation. The law will address digital transition interests, job creation, and GDP contributions. It will also require data centers to use renewable energy and ensure water availability. Additionally, a positive Environmental Impact Declaration will be necessary for project approval. Many countries are establishing similar regulations due to the importance of data centers for AI development, despite their high resource consumption.
