Government denies excessive tourism and says: increase is necessary

The Minister of Economy, Castro Almeida, stated that Portugal does not have excessive tourism, although some areas may experience it during specific times. He emphasized the need for tourism growth in value to improve workers' salaries, which he described as generally low. Recent data indicated a 1.5% increase in tourist overnight stays and a 5% rise in revenue. Almeida clarified that the government cannot set sector-specific salaries, only the national minimum wage. The final vote on the 2027 State Budget is scheduled for November 24.
