Government denies excessive tourism and says that increase in value is necessary

The Portuguese Minister of Economy, Castro Almeida, stated that there is no excess tourism in Portugal, although some areas may experience it during specific periods. He emphasized the need for tourism growth in value to improve workers' salaries in the sector, which he described as generally low. Recent data indicated a 1.5% increase in tourist overnight stays and a 5% rise in revenue. Almeida noted that while the government cannot set sector-specific salaries, it can influence the national minimum wage. The final vote on the 2027 State Budget is scheduled for November 24.
