Government, opposition and students unite in criticism of the president of IHRU
The Portuguese government, opposition, and student organizations have criticized the president of the IHRU for his remarks on housing sacrifices. Infrastructure Minister Miguel Pinto Luz expressed disagreement with Benjamim Pereira's comments about societal willingness to sacrifice for housing. Following Pereira's statements, the Left Bloc called for his resignation and requested an urgent parliamentary hearing. The Lisbon Academic Federation condemned Pereira's remarks as 'deeply unfortunate' and emphasized the need for effective housing access for students and young people. They argue that past sacrifices should inspire collective ambition rather than justify current challenges faced by youth.
