Government wants to have graduates teach in the 1st cycle without a master's degree or internship

The government plans to allow graduates in Basic Education to teach in the 1st cycle without completing their master's or undergoing training, addressing the shortage of teachers. This proposal was presented by the Minister of Education, Fernando Alexandre, to teacher unions, who expressed concerns but did not oppose it. The measure aims to fill gaps in teaching, especially in Lisbon, where many students lack instructors. Unions highlighted the need for specific teaching methodologies, yet acknowledged the lack of alternatives. The government assures this is a temporary solution until more qualified teachers are available, committing to provide necessary pedagogical training for these graduates.
