Government wants to have graduates teach in the first cycle without a master's degree or internship
The government plans to allow graduates in Basic Education to teach in the first cycle without completing their master's or undergoing training, addressing the shortage of teachers. Education Minister Fernando Alexandre presented this proposal to teacher unions, which expressed concerns but did not oppose it. The measure aims to fill gaps in teaching, particularly in Lisbon, where many students lack instructors. Unions highlighted the need for specific teaching methodologies, yet acknowledged the urgency of the situation. The government assures this is a temporary solution, committing to provide necessary pedagogical training for these teachers. The proposal is under review by unions, with a deadline for feedback set soon.
