Government rejects dismantling of CP and says that subconcession preserves the strategic role of the company

The government has rejected claims that the subcontracting of suburban railway lines will dismantle CP, asserting it will enhance competition while maintaining CP's strategic role. Secretary of State for Mobility, Cristina Pinto Dias, emphasized that CP will not disappear but will strengthen its position for high-speed services. The subcontracting model allows CP to remain a public operator while gaining new competencies in managing subcontracting contracts. The government aims to define public interest and improve performance through competition, starting studies with urban services due to high demand. A project team is preparing to study the phased subcontracting of operations on the Cascais and Sintra/Azambuja lines.
