Government raises the ceiling for the issuance of Savings Certificates by 60% to 16 billion due to demand

The Portuguese government has increased the issuance ceiling for Savings Certificates by 60% to €16 billion due to high demand from families and small investors. This decision, announced by Finance Minister Joaquim Miranda Sarmento, follows a significant uptake of these public savings products, which exceeded government forecasts. The rise in the Euribor rate has prompted families to shift their savings into Savings Certificates, which attracted €5.2 billion in net subscriptions in the first nine months of the year. Conversely, Treasury Certificates have seen a decline in investment, with a negative balance of €1.4 billion by the end of September.
