Government has legal means to prevent loss of sovereignty over Sines refinery says Minister of Environment and Energy
The Minister of Environment and Energy, Maria da Graça Carvalho, stated that the government has legal means to prevent loss of national control over the Sines refinery. She addressed Galp's willingness to explore new business opportunities after negotiations with Moeve ended, which would have given the Spanish partner 80% control of the refinery. Carvalho emphasized that national sovereignty over this energy infrastructure would be maintained, citing legal frameworks that allow the government to oppose foreign investments in critical assets. She noted that the government was aware of these options during the negotiations, which concluded without an agreement. The Moeve company is backed by Abu Dhabi's Mubadala Investment Company and the Carlyle Group.
