Old age and food lease: when the buyer of the goods does not fulfill his maintenance obligation

The "bail à nourriture" is a traditional contract where an elderly person transfers their property in exchange for care until death. In a case from 2017, an 86-year-old woman sold her land and house to a man who promised to care for her. However, after his death, it was revealed that she continued to pay for her own expenses, leading to a legal dispute. The court ruled that the man did not fulfill his obligations, despite testimonies claiming he provided companionship and minor assistance. The court emphasized that his actions did not meet the financial responsibilities outlined in the contract.
