Greece with double-digit growth in the number of tourists. Increased traffic at land borders

In the first eight months of 2026, Greece welcomed 28.5 million foreign tourists, marking a 10% increase from the previous year. August alone saw 8.47 million visitors, a 13.4% rise. However, average travel spending decreased by 6.5%, leading to a slower revenue growth of 6.5%, totaling €18.2 billion. Land arrivals surged by 22.6%, while air travel grew by only 5.7%. German tourists led the numbers with 4.21 million, followed by the UK and Italy, the latter showing a significant 22.1% increase. Conversely, British arrivals dropped by 15.9% in August, with spending down 32.8%. Despite the increase in tourist numbers, average spending per trip fell to €552.4, down from €590.7 the previous year, indicating that revenue growth was primarily due to increased visitor numbers rather than higher spending.
