General strike in prisons from November to January
The National Prison Guard Corps Union (SNCGP) announced a general strike from November 17 to January 3, affecting prison operations. During this period, most inmates will be confined to their cells for 22 hours daily, with exceptions for urgent interventions by security groups. The union demands the government fulfill agreements on overtime pay and promotions. Union president Frederico Morais emphasized the need for security guarantees for both inmates and guards. The strike will limit inmate visits and services, with only one weekly visit allowed and canteen access restricted. The SNCGP expressed frustration over unfulfilled commitments from the government, leading to this strike action.
