Britain approves gas extraction off Scotland
The UK government has approved gas extraction from the Jackdaw field, located 240 kilometers off the coast of Scotland, to supply households this winter. Prime Minister Andy Burnham stated the project would create jobs and help keep homes warm. However, this decision has divided the Labour Party, which previously pledged to halt new oil and gas licenses. Environmental activists criticized the approval, arguing it contradicts climate goals and exacerbates the climate crisis. Despite this, Burnham insists the project aligns with the UK's climate objectives, emphasizing the need for oil and gas in the transition to renewable energy.
