Largest infrastructure project in the country on schedule: phased opening in Bilzen-Hoeselt starting spring 2027
In Bilzen-Hoeselt, all seven level crossings will be replaced by tunnels and bridges to enhance safety, with a total investment of approximately 31 million euros. The project, the largest of its kind in Belgium, is set to begin in spring 2024 and will be executed by Infrabel in collaboration with local authorities. The phased opening will start in spring 2027, prioritizing cyclists, followed by vehicles in autumn 2027. However, the new bridge at Boomstraat will be delayed until summer 2028 due to underground infrastructure issues. Plans are also underway to close five additional crossings in Hoeselt, with ongoing discussions about alternatives.
