Larger pontoon being made for Steenplein in Antwerp: "Traveling with DeWaterbus will be more comfortable and safer"

A new pontoon is being constructed by Smulders in Hoboken for the Steenplein in Antwerp, set to replace the existing one in spring 2027. This project, costing 13 million euros, aims to enhance safety and comfort for users crossing the Schelde. The current pontoon, built in 2008, has become inadequate due to increased usage. The new structure will be 150 meters long, allowing four boats to dock simultaneously, and will feature wider access, safety barriers, and a canopy for weather protection. Local craftsmanship is emphasized in this project, which supports the growing demand for water transport. Temporary arrangements will be made for water transport services during construction.
