Group of citizens asks the President of the Republic to be heard on police violence
A group of around twenty Portuguese citizens, including notable figures, has urged the President of the Republic to address the recent police violence during protests. They claim that the police response was excessive and unjustified, calling for the President's intervention to restore public tranquility and respect for civil rights. The letter, signed by 23 personalities from various sectors, highlights the escalating violence in cities, attributing it to aggressive police actions rather than peaceful demonstrators. The protests aimed to challenge housing laws and advocate for affordable housing solutions. Following the police crackdown, further demonstrations have been organized in response to the violence.
