Van Gogh's "Starry Night" hid a secret. Scientists have solved the mystery of the famous painting

Vincent van Gogh's "Starry Night," painted in 1889 during his stay at a psychiatric hospital, has sparked debate about its astronomical accuracy. A South Korean research team analyzed various data to determine the celestial arrangement depicted in the painting. They found that around July 22, 1889, the moon and Venus were visible in a configuration similar to that in the artwork. This challenges previous assumptions about the painting's creation date. The study suggests interdisciplinary approaches combining astronomy and art history could yield new insights into other artworks. Van Gogh, celebrated posthumously, is now recognized as a pivotal figure in art history, with "Starry Night" housed in the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
