The Nébih recalled peeled and ground pistachios because they showed liver-damaging contamination.
Aflatoxin contamination has been detected in three types of pistachios sold by Kalifa, prompting a recall by Nébih. Consumers are advised not to consume specific batches of shelled and ground pistachios with various expiration dates. These products are sold in Hungary by Gilan Trading Kft., SPAR, and Auchan. Aflatoxins are toxic compounds produced by molds, which can cause severe health issues, including acute liver failure and increased cancer risk with long-term exposure. Children and individuals with hepatitis B are particularly vulnerable to aflatoxins.
