Thirty thousand cubic meters of riverbed material were washed out of the Danube during the construction of the Paks bottom threshold.

Approximately 30,000 cubic meters of riverbed material were washed away during the construction of the Paksi bottom threshold, according to a report by the National Water Management Authority. The accelerated water flow caused by the structure is eroding the riverbed both directly at the site and further away. A 200-meter section below the threshold requires reinforcement with a one-meter thick stone layer. The construction has also affected water levels, leading to the shutdown of three out of four nuclear power plant blocks due to low water levels. Experts criticize the project's documentation and technical parameters, suggesting that the erosion is significant and could have been better modeled during planning. Since August 13, a complete navigation ban has been in effect on the river section, impacting the transport of approximately 1.5 million tons of goods.
