Hasselt talks with Flanders about opening the garden of the governor's residence: "Accessibility would be good"

The city of Hasselt is in discussions with the Flemish government about opening the governor's residence garden to the public. Mayor Steven Vandeput confirmed this during a council meeting in response to a question from the opposition party Groen. The Flemish government plans to sell various properties, including the governor's residence and its adjacent garden, to improve finances. The garden, covering 5,000 square meters in the city center, has previously been requested for partial public access by several political parties. Groen has gathered 1,200 signatures from residents advocating for the garden to become a public park. Vandeput supports the idea but notes that financial resources for purchasing the garden are currently not allocated in the city's budget.
