Volvo has incurred huge losses, thousands of people will be laid off
Volvo Cars announced significant layoffs after reporting a larger-than-expected financial loss for Q3. The company will cut 2,500 jobs, with shares dropping nearly 30%. It recorded an operating loss of 3.7 billion SEK, contrasting with a profit of 5.8 billion SEK a year earlier. Analysts had anticipated a loss of only 724 million SEK. The layoffs will affect 2,000 jobs in Sweden and 500 abroad, adding to a previous reduction of 3,000 positions. CEO Hakan Samuelsson described the quarter as disappointing and hinted at further cuts. The company plans to prioritize profitability over market share growth in China and the U.S.
