Microsoft would pay sixty thousand employees to leave

Microsoft is offering financial support for voluntary departures to about 60,000 employees as part of cost-cutting measures and to fund AI investments. The offer targets divisions like Copilot, Xbox, and Windows, as well as finance and HR staff. HR chief Amy Coleman stated this provides eligible employees with a new option for their future. The company plans to invest $175 billion in AI-related infrastructure by 2026, while closely monitoring the return on these investments. As of June, Microsoft had 223,000 full-time employees and has already offered voluntary departure options to about 9,000 U.S. workers this year, alongside announcing job cuts in the Xbox division.
