Heineken must pay 111 million euros in damages to Greek beer brand

Heineken is deemed jointly liable for Athenian Brewery's abuse of power, resulting in a loss of €43.3 million for Macedonian Thrace Brewery. Athenian Brewery allegedly hindered competition from 1998 to 2014 through exclusive retailer agreements, leading to higher prices. The total compensation, including interest, amounts to €111.2 million. This case has been ongoing since Athenian Brewery was fined €31.5 million by the Greek competition authority in 2015. Carlsberg, the second-largest brewer in Greece, has also initiated legal action against Athenian Brewery for similar abuses.
