Herman Brood between Mondrian and Rembrandt: painting included in the national art collection

A painting by Herman Brood has been added to the Dutch national art collection, marking the first inclusion of his work. The Rijksdienst voor het Cultureel Erfgoed aims to elevate Brood's status as a 20th-century icon. The acrylic piece, depicting two men with a gun, was previously displayed at the Tax Office. Authenticity was confirmed after collaboration with the Stichting Valsbrood, a group specializing in identifying forgeries. The artwork, created in the early 1990s, showcases Brood's unique style, characterized by primary colors and innovative techniques, reflecting his 'rock-'n-roll' approach to painting.
