According to credit rating agencies, Hungary is on the right track to join the eurozone by 2032.
Fitch Ratings' recent assessment indicates that Hungary's budget plan for 2027 aligns with the goal of meeting Eurozone accession criteria by 2030. The government aims to reduce the budget deficit from 7.5% to 4.9% of GDP by next year, with spending cuts projected at 1.5% of GDP. Despite some execution risks, favorable financing conditions could support budget consolidation. Fitch forecasts a decline in Hungary's budget deficit to 3% by 2030, while the debt-to-GDP ratio is expected to peak at 77.7% in 2027-2028. The Hungarian economy's growth and the forint's exchange rate will influence future debt trajectories. Other analysts also suggest Hungary may meet Euro adoption criteria by the early 2030s, with potential ERM II entry by 2030.
