How the wildfire in the High Fens causes residents of Voeren to temporarily have more chlorine in their water

Due to high ammonium levels in drinking water from the Eupen water production center, extra chlorine is being added in Voeren. This issue stems from the severe wildfires in the High Fens last summer, which led to increased ammonium concentrations after recent rains washed various substances into the Vesder river. The Watergroep assures residents that the water remains safe to drink and meets all standards. They are closely monitoring water quality and conducting additional tests. Residents can mitigate the chlorine smell by adding lemon juice or aerating the water. The situation is expected to resolve by the end of the week.
