How can Hungary escape the cursed EU procedure?

Cautious forecasts suggest that the procedure against Hungary under Article 7 of the Treaties may end soon, as the rule of law situation has improved. The European Commission proposed to close the conditionality procedure, indicating that Hungary is now a place where EU funds are used transparently and corruption is being fought. Ursula von der Leyen highlighted this progress in her speeches, emphasizing the revival of democracy in Hungary. Despite previous concerns about serious violations of EU rights, the situation has eased, and the strictest measures may no longer be necessary. The process under Article 7 has seen little recent activity, with only two discussions planned for 2026.
