General practitioners in Halle advocate for vaccination against pneumococci: "That virus also causes too many victims every year"

The Artsenkring Zennevallei emphasizes the importance of pneumococcal vaccination this autumn, urging seniors and those with weakened health to get vaccinated. The current vaccination rate in Belgium is low, around 16%. Local doctors in Halle are advocating for this vaccination, highlighting its role in preventing annual fatalities. Recently, about 50 healthcare providers received flu shots to set an example and reduce virus transmission. The call for pneumococcal vaccination targets individuals over 65 and younger people with health risks, such as heart or lung issues and diabetes. In contrast, flu vaccination rates are significantly higher, with a campaign running from mid-October to December, ensuring six months of protection. Doctors observe increased illness in spring, correlating with rising flu cases and complications like pneumonia.
