Huldenberg had to dehard, now the basements of the town hall and library are underwater

Following recent storms, basements at the newly renovated Gemeenteplein in Huldenberg are flooded. The area was redesigned to improve groundwater absorption, but this has increased pressure on nearby buildings. Residents reported water entering the library and town hall basements. Mayor Danny Vangoidtsenhoven acknowledged that while flooding has occurred before, its frequency has increased since the renovation. He emphasized that homeowners are responsible for waterproofing their basements, which is often inadequate in older buildings. The municipality is now exploring structural measures to address the issue, despite not regretting the renovation aimed at better water management.
