A $25 billion fine has been imposed on Meta due to the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

Meta has been fined $25 billion for misleading users about its data privacy practices related to the Cambridge Analytica scandal. A New Mexico court ruled that Meta violated consumer protection laws 43 million times, with each violation potentially costing up to $5,000. The Cambridge Analytica firm collected user data without permission for campaign purposes, including the 2016 U.S. presidential election. New Mexico's Attorney General described the ruling as one of the largest state judgments against a corporation in U.S. history. Although the judge suggested a fine of over $219 billion, it was ultimately reduced to $25 billion. This ruling follows a $459.2 million settlement with six other states regarding similar issues.
