HVG: BYD has not yet received the job creation support promised by Szijjártó

The National Investment Agency (HIPA) confirmed that BYD's investment in Szeged lacks a signed support agreement. The agency clarified that it has not yet provided job creation support to the Chinese automaker. Former Minister Péter Szijjártó announced the factory's construction in 2023, stating that the government would provide job creation support. The previous government authorized the import of nearly ten thousand foreign workers for BYD and committed around 70 billion HUF for infrastructure support in the area. Although Szijjártó did not disclose the amount of job creation support, it is suggested to exceed 10% of the total investment value, potentially amounting to tens of billions of HUF. Additionally, BYD's electric bus manufacturing division received government support twice: 925.4 million HUF in 2018 and 1 billion HUF in 2025. Szijjártó has since joined BYD as the head of external relations and new business development.
