HVG: Fidesz manipulated NATO reports regarding military personnel numbers
NATO member states must report their military personnel numbers annually, with Hungary recently correcting its data after 16 years. The new report indicates a discrepancy of 1,700 to 2,500 fewer soldiers than previously stated by the Orbán government. This revision reflects a 7.8% to 12.4% difference, equivalent to an entire brigade. The 2023 correction is the largest proportionally among NATO countries, following Turkey's significant adjustment of 90,000 fewer soldiers, representing nearly a 20% decrease.
