IFC bets on agribusiness, tourism, and logistics for economic growth in Lusophone Africa

The International Finance Corporation (IFC) is focusing on agribusiness, tourism, and logistics to drive economic growth in Lusophone Africa. Sameh Wahba, the regional director, emphasized these sectors' potential for job creation and economic impact. The IFC's active project portfolio in Portuguese-speaking African countries has reached $750 million, with significant investments in agribusiness and energy. The recent Lusophone Business Forum saw increased participation, highlighting the fragmented nature of the Lusophone market compared to the Francophone space. Despite global geopolitical disruptions, Wahba noted opportunities for renewable energy and local agricultural production. The IFC aims to enhance its presence and support small businesses in the region.
