IGAI opens process after police interventions in Lisbon and Porto
The Inspectorate-General of Internal Administration (IGAI) has initiated an administrative process following police interventions in Lisbon and Porto that resulted in injuries. This decision comes after public reports and images of the incidents, which occurred during housing rights protests. The IGAI aims to evaluate the police procedures used during these events. The police, using batons and dogs, dispersed demonstrators who were protesting against housing issues, leading to 33 injuries and arrests. Protesters demand changes to housing laws and increased public housing. Left-wing parties criticized the police actions, while the ruling PSD party supported the police response.
