Church should make heritage available for housing

Auxiliary Bishop Roberto Mariz suggests that the Catholic Church in Portugal should consider renting out unused properties at affordable prices to address housing shortages. He highlights the potential of vacant parish residences and other ecclesiastical properties, while acknowledging that some buildings may not be suitable for conversion. Mariz emphasizes the importance of this initiative in preventing property deterioration and contributing to housing solutions. He cites examples of successful adaptations in other regions, such as Catalonia, and calls for coordinated government measures to ensure lasting results in housing policy. The topic will be discussed at the upcoming bishops' assembly in November.
