Church. All reports of sexual abuse have been archived
Approximately 70 complaints of sexual abuse by priests against children have been archived by the Public Ministry in Portugal. None of the complaints filed in the last four years progressed to formal charges. Most cases were archived due to the expiration of the statute of limitations, while others lacked sufficient evidence. Many complaints were made years after the alleged incidents, with a significant number dating back to the 1980s and 1990s. The 15 inquiries opened following reports to the Independent Commission for the Study of Sexual Abuse of Children in the Catholic Church were also archived, as were 28 formal complaints received by the Vita Group, which succeeded the commission.
