This is how the rules of the wealth tax have changed compared to the initial plans

The proposed wealth tax legislation has undergone several clarifications compared to its initial draft, addressing practical issues while maintaining its complexity. The tax will apply to total wealth exceeding 1 billion HUF, including foreign assets. An exit tax will be introduced for those who relocate abroad after being tax residents in Hungary for at least five years. Changes include the evaluation of stock holdings over a 180-day period instead of 30 days, and the definition of holding companies has been broadened. New technical rules for non-listed share evaluations and expanded property assessment criteria are also included. Penalties for property evaluators who undervalue assets significantly have been introduced, and foreign property valuation rules have been clarified, emphasizing acquisition costs and annual adjustments.
