French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez reported around a thousand arrests during nationwide protests, noting that the situation was generally calm despite the rising number of detentions. He highlighted that on October 17, there were 385 arrests, but law enforcement prevented looting and there were no direct attacks on public buildings.
