The Norcia earthquake ten years later: the story of those who helped the population
On October 30, 2016, the Valnerina region experienced a 6.5 magnitude earthquake, affecting areas in Umbria and Marche, including Norcia and Preci. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries reported. The Anpas organization, already present in the area, provided essential support by setting up a meal distribution center. Over approximately 100 days, they served nearly 50,000 meals to both residents and workers. Around 580 volunteers from across Italy participated, demonstrating remarkable dedication despite harsh conditions. The community's response varied, with many elderly individuals relying on the meal service for social interaction. The initiative aimed to foster community ties during the crisis, emphasizing the importance of solidarity in recovery efforts. The meal service concluded on February 4, 2017.
