Without Illusions: The Maturation of Hungarian Industry (x)
After the economic downturn following the regime change, Hungary's industry stabilized and grew, aided by EU accession and foreign investments. However, structural issues in the SME sector and the 2008 crisis led to significant challenges. The initial wave of greenfield investments brought major companies like Opel and Audi, improving productivity and reducing public debt. Despite growth, a divide emerged between strong multinationals and struggling SMEs, particularly in less developed regions. The global crisis in 2009 caused a historic drop in industrial output. Post-crisis, the industry adapted, with new investments in automotive and electronics, leading to a recovery. The upcoming Modern Factories Night event will showcase advancements in Hungarian manufacturing.
