In 11 years, only 1 damage file for wild boars in Flanders compensated: "Procedure needs to be simpler"

Only one out of 294 wild boar damage claims in Flanders resulted in compensation, amounting to 270 euros for a case in Limburg. Lydia Peeters highlighted the need for simpler procedures, as most claims come from Limburg and parts of Flemish Brabant. The main issue is the burden of proof, requiring claimants to demonstrate that the wild boars originated from non-hunting areas. Minister Jo Brouns acknowledged the problem and indicated that the government is reviewing the system to make it easier for individuals to file claims. Discussions are ongoing about measures to keep wild boars away from residential areas.
