In Serbia, a new type of democracy is taking hold, and Europe is watching closely

In April 2022, Serbian students embarked on a 13-day bicycle journey to Strasbourg to advocate for democratic values and accountability after protests against government actions. Their efforts culminated in a significant electoral victory, ousting the authoritarian leader Aleksandar Vučić and securing over half of parliamentary seats. This movement, characterized by its grassroots nature and lack of hierarchy, aims to implement reforms addressing corruption and improve public institutions. The election results have sparked hope for Serbia's EU accession and a democratic revival in Central Europe, with EU officials expressing readiness to support necessary reforms.
