Indonesia: Bocelli performs despite criticism for supporting Israel
Italian singer Andrea Bocelli is set to perform in Indonesia on October 31 and November 3, despite opposition from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) due to his past support for Israel. The MUI, the country's highest religious authority, has urged the government to cancel the concerts, citing Bocelli's affinity with Israel as contrary to Indonesian values. They argue that hosting pro-Zionist figures undermines the nation's spirit and commitment to Palestinian rights. Despite these objections, the event promoter confirmed the concerts will proceed, emphasizing Bocelli's humanitarian message and the concerts' aim to raise funds for children affected by war. The MUI expressed disappointment with the government's decision to allow the concerts, stating it does not reflect the aspirations of the Indonesian people.
