INEM registers an average of 26 suspected stroke cases per day this year

The National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) reported over 6,700 suspected stroke cases this year, averaging 26 per day. This increase reflects improved identification and reporting processes rather than a rise in actual stroke incidence. Most cases involved women, with an average age of 77. Major cities like Lisbon and Porto had the highest numbers of reported cases. The INEM emphasized the importance of quick emergency response and public awareness regarding stroke symptoms, urging immediate calls to emergency services. Additionally, a national rehabilitation plan for stroke survivors is being advocated for better access to timely care.
