Information evening about new Scheldebrug in Wetteren attracts 150 interested parties: "Hope they thoroughly investigate the scenarios"

Around 150 residents attended an information evening in Wetteren regarding the new Scheldebrug. The city proposes relocating the bridge outside the center to Overbeke, while local nature groups prefer it to remain in its current location. The existing bridge, built 70 years ago, needs replacement due to height restrictions for container ships. Three scenarios are being considered: two at the current site and one in Overbeke, with costs varying from 27 to 33 million euros. Many Overbeke residents oppose the new location, fearing loss of views and increased traffic. Concerns were raised about the environmental impact and flood risks during the meeting.
