University of Coimbra researcher says Fagilde dam is a mistake
Fernando Seabra Santos, a professor at the University of Coimbra, criticized the planned Fagilde dam, arguing that the Girabolhos dam could better serve the region's water needs. He highlighted the economic inefficiency of constructing Fagilde and emphasized the need for integrated water management. During a congress in Viseu, he pointed out past water shortages and the inadequacy of transporting water between dams. Seabra Santos suggested that Girabolhos could supply Viseu effectively, reducing the need for Fagilde's expansion. He also stressed the importance of maintaining existing water infrastructure, which is often neglected in favor of new projects.
